Senior Associate

Adjunct Professor Simon Baker is a human demographer, public health researcher and evaluation expert. He has worked on development issues in Asia and beyond for over 20 years, with multiple NGOs and government agencies. His recent work uses documentary film and photographs in community-based health communication. Other projects focus on rural development, population movements, labour conditions and health, especially for migrant workers and trafficked victims.

  • Regional experience includes: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, China, Greece, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Moldova, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand and Vietnam.

  • Has worked closely with government ministries and national governments

  • Experience with local and international NGOs, such as Child Workers in Asia, Save the Children, Acting for Life, Plan Finland, Plan Sweden, Plan Thailand, World Population Foundation, ECPAT International, APEC, CDC, the Population Council, PATH, MSF, the Thailand Business Coalition on AIDS, Mahidol University, RTI, International Planned Parenthood Federation, ICF, Embode, ISG, Walk Free Foundation, Winrock International, ADB, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNESCO, ILO, WHO, UNIAP, UN-ACT, UNOPS, ESCAP. Population Council and ICF International.

  • PhD in Demography, with a focus on child labour in Thailand, from the Australian National University.

  • Fluent in Thai and speaks Greek, Lao, and Khmer.
