Prof Kristen Pammer
Senior Associate
Professor Kristen Pammer is the Head of the School of Psychology at the University of Newcastle and a former Deputy Director of Science Education (Psychology), and Associate Dean Science (Teaching and Learning). She holds qualifications in science, psychology and neuroanatomy from the University of Wollongong and the University of New South Wales. Her expertise is in applied cognitive psychology, particularly applied aspects of visual attention, such as attentional allocation in driving, reading and dyslexia. In these research contexts, she also does brain imaging research – specifically magnetoencephalographic (MEG) imaging.
Kristen has been CI on multiple large research projects funded by the ARC (Linkage and LEIF), government and industry and she has an extensive network of industry research partners. She has been a grant assessor on national (NHMRC and ARC) and international (e.g., the Open Programme of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, Canadian Health Research Council) research proposals.
Kristen is also passionate about teaching and learning and has won multiple awards for her collegiate approach including the 2017 Vice-Chancellors award for Excellence in Indigenous Education. She has been an ANU University Education Scholar (2012-13) and developed ANU’s Peer Partnerships in Teaching, and Tutor Training program. She was founding Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in Australia (2013) and a member of the ANU University Education Committee.
She is currently an Academic Board Member of the Australian College of Applied Psychology. She is an Adjunct Professor at the ANU and has an honorary appointment in research at the University of Waikato. Her international experience also includes research at RIKEN University in Japan, the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland and Newcastle University, UK.
