Prof Susan Bennett
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Prof Susan Bennett held multiple administrative roles at the University of Calgary (Canada) including Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Humanities, Advisor to the President on “Creativity & Innovation in the Arts” and University Research Grants Mentor for Arts and Social Sciences. She has served on adjudication committees for Canada’s Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Australian Research Council and regularly reviews grant applications for agencies in Europe, UK and the United States. Across Canada, she has participated in/chaired numerous external reviews of university departments as well as new and continuing MA and PhD programs.
She has held SSHRC research grants both individually and as a member of interdisciplinary teams including the 10-year Major Collaborative Initiative on “The Culture of Cities.” Her research spans the creative arts, literature, cultural studies and tourism and she is the author/editor of 9 books. She has held major roles in a number of scholarly associations including President of the Canadian Association of Theatre Research, Vice-President for Publications for the American Society for Theatre Research, and a Division Executive Member of the Modern Languages Association. She is an elected member of the Royal Society of Canada, Academy of Arts and Humanities.
Her interests also include curriculum development for community-engaged and experiential learning in the arts.
