Prof Peter Phibbs
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Peter Phibbs is a Professor in the Henry Halloran Trust, a research Trust funded through philanthropy at the University of Sydney, and an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Architecture at Monash University. Before that he was Chair of Urban Planning, Associate Dean (Research), Head of School, and Associate Dean (Development) in the Faculty of Architecture Design and Planning at the University of Sydney. He has also been the Director of Academic Programs at the Urban Research Centre, University of Western Sydney, and Director of a housing research centre (AHURI) for three Universities.
Peter has always had an interest in engaging with industry, particularly the urban planning profession. This engagement has focussed on the development of relevant professional development programs as well as high impact public events. His approach has always been entrepreneurial – he started Australia’s first bicycle courier business whilst still a University student – and as Associate Dean he developed an online platform for prospect tracing for his Faculty which was later adopted by the University. Most recently he has developed a training program for NSW Local Aboriginal Land Councils about the planning system and helped develop a training program for professional planners to assist them to effectively engage with NSW Aboriginal communities.
Peter has particular strengths in strategic planning for schools and faculties, developing industry and community partnerships, including Indigenous partnerships, research centre development and working with philanthropists.
