Prof Lucy Taksa

Professor Lucy Taksa

Senior ASSOCIATE

Prof Lucy Taksa is Professor of Management with the Department of Management, Deakin University Business School and Honorary Professor, School of Geography and Sustainable Communities, University of Wollongong.

Between 2000 and August 2009 she was Director of the UNSW Industrial Relations Research Centre, Head of the Department of Organisation and Management, and Associate Dean Education in the Faculty of Commerce and Economics/Australian School of Business, UNSW. From August 2009 until 2014, she was Head of the Department of Marketing and Management and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Business and Economics, Macquarie university. In 2011 she established the Centre for Workforce Futures in the Faculty, and led its Diversity, Employment and Organisations pillar, also convening the Cultural Diversity Research Network. From July 2018-January2022 she was Director of the Centre with Industry Professor Daryll Hull.

Externally, she was a part-time member of the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal Equal Employment Division and Legal Services Division (2003–2007) and from 2007 until 2012 she was Chair of the Board of the NSW Archives and State Records. In 2019 she was named as one of the Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence – Diversity & Inclusion.

Prof Taksa has been an assessor for the Australian Research Council (ARC) since 1998 for Discovery (DP), Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA), Linkage, Future Fellowship, Special Research Initiative for Australian Society, History and Culture Research, and National Intelligence and Security Discovery Research Grants Schemes. She was member of the ARC College of Experts (2014-16) and of a Selection Advisory Committee for the Laureate Fellowship Research Grant Scheme. She has assessed research grants for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Insight Program, the Hertha Firnberg Program of the Austrian Science Fund, the KU Leuven Research Council (Leuven University, Belgium), The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) and SONATA BIS Research Funding Scheme, National Science Centre, Poland.

She has been the recipient of 7 Australian Research Council (ARC) Grants for research projects and has also conducted 14 externally funded research projects with a range of government, private sector and not-for-profit organisations. She was mentor for two successful ARC DECRA recipients.

Lucy’s research interests and publications are broadly on the past, present and future of work, working people and work organisation; management ideas, strategies and employment practises; gender, cultural and age diversity; Equal Employment Opportunities and diversity and cross-cultural management; workplace health; migrant employment and entrepreneurship; and social and industrial history and heritage. She has published extensively on these subjects and also on management, business and higher education, gendered cultures in nursing, transport and finance, representations of women leaders, the socio-economic and workplace impacts of lymphedema, migrant and refugee human and social capital.

She is Editor-in-Chief (with Prof. Amanda Pyman), Journal of Industrial Relations and on the editorial boards of Economic and Labour Relations Review, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Labour History, Journal of Management History and Relations  Industrielles/Industrial  Relations.
