Prof Jock Given
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Jock researches, writes and teaches about media and communications policy, law, business and history. His work has been published in journals including Telecommunications Policy, Journal of Information Policy, Media and Communication, Business History, Media History, Australian Economic History Review and Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television.
Jock has been a chief investigator on four ARC Discovery and Linkage projects and one funded by Canada’s SSHRC. His most recent project was about radiofrequency spectrum management. He has published 40 essays for the current affairs and culture site Inside Story. He has a PhD in history from the University of Melbourne and undergraduate degrees in Law, Economics, Commerce and Arts from the University of Queensland.
Jock is currently Professor of Media and Communications at Swinburne University of Technology. He is a member of the international editorial boards of Telecommunications Policy (Elsevier) and the Journal of Digital Media and Policy (Intellect), where he was a founding associate editor from 2009-21. He joined the board of the Australian Society of Authors in November 2022. Previous positions include:
