Prof Jane Hunter
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Prof Jane Hunter has an international reputation for her research in applied data science and data analytics across a wide range of disciplines (including environmental, biological, materials and social sciences as well as digital humanities). She has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge (1994) as well as degrees in Science and Engineering. She was Professor of eResearch at the University of Qld from 2005-2019 and Director of the Australian Research Infrastructure Network (AURIN) and Professor at the University of Melbourne from 2020-2021.
From 2014-2018, she was Chair of the Academy of Sciences National Committee for Data in Science. She has been a panel assessor for the ARC ERA (Excellence in Research for Australia) (2010, 2012, 2015), and grant reviewer for NSF Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS) grants, ARC Discovery and Linkage projects, UK EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) program, EU FP6 ICT proposals, and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).
She has published over 150 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, on the topic of trans-disciplinary data management and data analytics, and has a h-index of 47 (Google Scholar). Between 2012 and 2022, she was awarded over $10mill in research funding from the ARC, NCRIS, and research, government and industry grant programs to analyse data related to housing, genetic diseases, environmental health, architectural history, novel materials and art conservation.
