Dr Simona John von Freyend is a science writer, strategy consultant and communicator. She completed her PhD in cell biology and infectious diseases at the University of Hamburg, Germany in 2010. She has 9 years’ worth of experience as an academic researcher and now helps researchers develop research proposals for predominantly the National Health and Medical Research Council.
Simona works on all aspects of NHMRC proposals, including helping applicants develop their ideas into a clear grant application and writing strategy.
Having worked in Strategic Research Development for the Victorian Heart Hospital, which will be Australia’s first stand-alone heart hospital with a fully integrated, interdisciplinary research institute, Simona is also a skilled project manager. She is highly proficient at coordinating interdisciplinary teams, engaging high-level stakeholders and effectively organising conferences and workshops.
Her experience in science writing, including writing and editing for The Conversation, means she can propose pathways to develop a clear, concise and cohesive grant proposal that captures reviewers’ attention.
