Prof Robin Goodman

Robin Goodman is Emeritus Professor of Urban Planning at RMIT University. Robin was the Dean of the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, a large multi-disciplinary social science school at RMIT, from 2017-2020. Prior to that she was the head of the Sustainability and Urban Planning team from 2013-16. From 2009 to 2013 Robin was the Director of RMIT’s AHURI Research Centre and the inaugural Director of the Centre for Urban Research. She also spent one year concurrently as the Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation. Before coming to academia Robin worked in the community sector and public service in a variety of roles. She holds a PhD and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Melbourne and a BA(Hons) from LaTrobe University.
Robin is an urban planner with broad interests in many aspects of planning, housing and public policy. Her current research projects are typically diverse including issues of transport provision, social infrastructure and retail centres in new suburbs, and the experience of conflict for urban planners and planning lawyers. Robin is co-author of a book on Melbourne’s planning published in 2016, Planning Melbourne – Lessons for a Sustainable City, with Michael Buxton and Susie Moloney.
Robin was made a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) in 2015 and serves on its National Education Committee and is the Chair of the Accreditation Panel for the New Zealand Planning Institute.
