Mia Lindgren is an internationally recognised authority in podcast, radio, and journalism studies with extensive leadership experience across multiple Australian universities. As former Associate Dean Research at University of Tasmania (2022-2025), Dean of Social Sciences, Media, Film and Education at Swinburne University (2019-2022), and Founding Head of the School of Media, Film and Journalism at Monash University (2014-2018), she champions innovation in research excellence and advocates for humanities, arts, and social sciences. She is adjunct professor at RMIT and UTAS.
She is an international leader in integrating podcasting in teaching and research, for knowledge translation and creating impactful public outcomes. Her podcast "Rise of the Superbugs" won Bronze at the Australian Podcast Awards in 2022, and her new podcast series "Breaking Taboos" explores mental health issues among older Australians. Mia Lindgren holds several national and international research leadership roles on editorial boards and scientific committees, including as co-editor of the Q1-ranked Radio Journal: International Studies in Broadcast and Audio Media. She is a board member of the Deans and Directors of Creative Arts (DDCA).
She has extensive experience advising on research grant applications and serves as examiner for national and international research funding bodies including the Australian Research Council, Austrian Science Fund, and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She has been part of teams securing $2.6 million in competitive research funding, including three Australian Research Council grants (Discovery and Linkage) and two NHMRC grants. Her interdisciplinary research examines public understanding of complex health issues through innovative audio storytelling, producing both traditional scholarship and NTROs, such as podcasts, documentaries, and interactive websites.
Mia Lindgren has chaired and served as member on numerous curriculum and program reviews in Australia and internationally. Her experience includes external reviews at Auckland University of Technology, Griffith University, Edith Cowan University, and Latrobe University. She has also facilitated strategic planning sessions for media and journalism programs at multiple institutions, offering valuable insights for their development and improvement.
