Prof Jenny Fleming

Professor Jenny Fleming

Senior Associate

Jenny Fleming is Professor of Criminology at the University of Southampton, UK and Director of the Institute of Criminal Justice Research at that institution.

She is an internationally renowned criminology scholar and specializes in policing studies. As lead researcher for the University of Southampton she was part of the University Consortium in partnership with the College of Policing, UK, supporting a programme for the What Works Centre for Crime Reduction, writing and publishing training materials, facilitating, and conducting training and focus groups with police forces across the UK and publishing research findings.

A long-standing research interest in gender, leadership and the organisation of work in police organisations informs her extensive publications and practitioner collaborative work. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Policing and Society: an international journal of research and policy, Co-Editor of Comparative Policing Review, and Book Series Editor of Routledge Studies in Policing and Society

Professor Fleming has excellent inter-personal skills and is highly experienced in mentoring and career and professional development in the higher education sector. She has a multi-faceted understanding of research-funding, research application work and has vast experience in grant application review (ESRC, ARC; Leverhulme; Australian Institute of Criminology, British Academy, Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsradet)), external examination of research centres/institutes and a significant international network of professional and practitioner relationships.

Professor Fleming is a member of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services academic reference group (UK) and a member of the Australian Institute of Police Management Global Professoriate. Board memberships have included: Crimestoppers (Australia); Institute of Public Administration of Australia (Tasmania) and Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia. She holds a PhD in Politics and Policy from Griffith University.
