Prof Frances Shannon
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Prof Shannon has extensive leadership and senior management experience within higher education and medical research institutes and is now an Emeritus Professor at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University. Her background includes degrees (BSc(Hons) and PhD) in biochemistry and zoology from University College Dublin, a successful 25 year career in biomedical research, followed by 10 years in senior university management. Over her career, she has developed expertise in the following areas;
Leadership and management in higher education and research institutions including the capacity to develop and implement strategy in a collegiate environment,
Strong understanding of the national and international research policy environment including international university ranking systems and research data collection processes such as ERA,
In depth knowledge of research funding schemes especially NHMRC, ARC, CRCs, large funding bid preparation as well as grant assessment systems,
Understanding of university administrative support mechanisms especially related to research support,
Governance and advisory boards in research and innovation settings and knowledge of innovation strategy and commercial development of research.
