William Forde (Bill) Thompson: Professor, Faculty of Society and Design
Bill is an Australian-Canadian academic with over 200 articles published in science and humanities journals, including top tier journals such as Psychological Review, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, as well as popular outlets like Scientific American Mind.
He has held six ARC Discovery Project grants and was a Chief Investigator on the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders. In Canada, he held five grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, two from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and several industry grants.
At Macquarie University, he was awarded the honour of Distinguished Professor, where he was also the Head of the Psychology Department for four years. Previously, he was Head of the Psychology Department at York University, Canada, and later Professor of Psychology at University of Toronto, Canada, where he was Director of Communication, Culture, & Information Technology (CCIT programs).
He has also been awarded several research fellowships, including at the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies, UBC, Canada, (2019), the Institute for Advanced Studies, Durham University, UK (2017), and Harvard Medical School (2014). In 2015 he was awarded a lifetime honour of Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (USA), and has been elected as President for three international societies in his field (USA, Australia, Asia-Pacific).
Bill is currently a professor in the Faculty of Society and Design at Bond University, and Professor Emeritus at Macquarie University.
