Prof Angelina Russo
Senior Associate
Professor Angelina Russo is an experienced designer and former senior academic who has run award-winning microenterprises since 2011. She focuses on the convergence of creativity and well-being by designing and delivering “maker” workshops across local government, institutions and community groups. Her entrepreneurial approach to maker activities includes digital fabrication training for new migrants, a nested program of innovation and wellbeing (MAKEBREAK), workshops in Zero Food Waste in the Workplace and (BisMakers: An Unusual Craft Affair) which bring senior artisans together with emerging digital artisans to share skills and knowledge that translates into business opportunity.
In 2018 she created Making Makers, a consultancy offer that includes Research Stewardship, Bespoke Product Development and Partnership and Network Development.
Angelina has an MBA in Higher Education Management from University College London (2014), a PhD in Architecture and Design (2004) and a Bachelor of Design, Human Environment Design (1988). She has received awards including Queensland Premiers’ Smithsonian Fellowship (New York); and Australian Post-Graduate Industry Award and Australian Wool Fashion Awards in both 2016 and 2011.
She has held leadership roles in higher education including Associate Dean Research, University of Canberra; Director of Higher Degrees Research, RMIT University; Investigator, ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation and Head of Communication Design, QUT.
Angelina is recognised for her extensive social enterprise experience as a co-founder of the 4000 member global network, Museum3, an early cultural social media network turned NFP that ran for 8 years providing an invaluable resource to the cultural sector.
She is a very experienced grant reviewer and developer with particular expertise in DECRAs.
