Team Work
DR DIANA NEWPORT-PEACE | FEBRUARY 2022
At Outside Opinion every project is different. The work ranges from one-on-one grant reviews and mentoring to major team projects addressing Faculty and institutional strategy.
From May to October 2021, five members of our team worked with a Faculty Associate Dean, Research to review and advise on the development of school plans and workload allocation models to optimise research performance across a diverse range of disciplines ahead of the next ERA round. The work commenced with a high level review of the Faculty’s leadership structure, research capability and performance, followed by detailed and discipline specific analysis of draft plans and workload allocation models. This approach was developed over a period of several weeks, in discussion with the Executive Dean and Associate Dean, Research.
The work was delivered in phases, focusing on each School in turn and wrapping up with an overarching report and recommendations for the Faculty. Each report drilled down into the details of the approach to research planning and workload allocation, generating discipline specific recommendations for strengthening research leadership and management, capacity development, planning and communication.
With me as the Project Coordinator and lead analyst, the review drew on Professor Denise Meredyth (Education and Humanities); former ARC Executive Director Professor Joanne Tompkins (Creative Arts); Professor Santina Bertoni (Business and Law) and Professor Matthew Allen (Internet Studies), previously an Outside Opinion Senior Associate and recently appointed Executive Dean of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University.
This team illustrates Outside Opinion’s strength in drawing on a range of disciplinary and leadership expertise to address the specific needs of our university clients.
