OO supports successful Linkage projects and Industrial Transformation Research Hubs
29 July 2021 | Denise Meredyth
I am thrilled to report that Outside Opinion Associates supported 6 of the 16 Australian Research Council funded Linkage projects announced yesterday - a 37% success rate and helped to win two multi-million dollar Industrial Transformation Research Hub projects.
OO Senior Associate, Prof Fiona Cameron, worked with a team led by Macquarie University’s Professor Alison Rodger to win the bid for a new ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Facilitated Advancement of Australia's Bioactives (FAAB).
Funded for nearly $5m, the Centre will pioneer the analysis at molecular level of bioactive products such as those derived from foods, food-waste, and cell-based biotechnologies. Partners include Bioplatforms Australia Ltd, Botanical innovations, Change Foods Pty Ltd and the Dept of Primary Industries.
Prof Cameron also helped a team led by Professor Jerry Dean at James Cook University secure funding of $5 million for an ARC Research Hub for Supercharging Tropical Aquaculture Through Genetic Solutions (IH210100014).
This project will deliver the genetic knowledge to instigate world-leading and highly productive breeding programs for five tropical aquaculture species (barramundi, pearl oyster, prawn, grouper and marine algae) in northern Australia. It will integrate cutting edge genetic and genomic approaches into innovative aquaculture enterprises and will establish a novel understanding of the genetic basis of disease resistance and how the production environment interfaces with the bacterial microbiome, pathogens and water quality to cause disease. Outcomes will lead to increased productivity, international competitiveness, and lowered disease risk and significantly expand Australia's capacity in the aquaculture sector.
