Dr Jane Andrew is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at UniSA. In 2009, she was invited to develop a business case for the establishment of a Design Consultancy/ Project-based learning unit in UniSA’s then School of Art Architecture and Design. In 2010, Match Studio was launched, and Jane was the Director until Dec 2023. Match Studio is an internationally recognised studio-based model for cross- and inter-disciplinary research, teaching, and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL). During this time Jane’s teaching focused on Interdisciplinary WIL, Collaborative Practice, and Creative Enterprise Development. This connects with her research interest in Regional Innovation Systems and the recognition of the role that creative people, design methodologies and practices play in fostering innovation and facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations.
During her tenure at UniSA, Match Studio undertook over 150 projects that intersected with a broad range of sectors, ranging from the arts and creative industries, built environment, food and wine, all levels of education, science, engineering and technology, social services, and corrections, ageing well, health, and mental health. Through this work, Jane developed an ever-increasing network of researchers, industry and not-for-profit clients, policymakers, government agencies and individuals eager to exchange knowledge and undertake project collaborations. Jane was instrumental in developing The Art & Design of Health & Wellbeing research and innovation cluster. The cluster-inspired engagement between multiple knowledge bases and industry. Many relationships and ideas developed through network events became funded projects.
An expert in Strategic Design and Co-Design, Jane works with teams to identify, develop, and implement desirable, feasible, and viable projects that create value for all project stakeholders. In her project and workshop facilitation, Jane integrates methodologies and methods, including Futures and Foresight, Systems Thinking and Analysis, Strategic Design, Design Thinking, Strategic Planning, and Business Model Design and Implementation.
Since leaving UniSA, Jane has launched a Strategic Design consultancy, CoolBus Creative, that draws together her qualifications and skills in Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Education, Management, and Organizational Leadership to foster innovation and collaborations across professional disciplines and industry sectors that are people-centred and focused on improving the lives of individuals and communities. Jane has developed a unique combination of academic, practitioner, consulting, and leadership experience that enables her to facilitate engaging workshops that considerately challenge the status quo to broker conversations and relationships across teams and productive partnerships across portfolios and sectors.
