Prof Erik Champion
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Prof Erik Champion is currently Enterprise Fellow (Architecture, Creative) at the University of South Australia; Emeritus Professor at Curtin University; Honorary Research Professor at ANU; and Honorary Research Fellow at UWA. He was recently a chief investigator on 4 Australian Research Council grants, Curtin University’s first UNESCO Chair (of Cultural Visualisation and Heritage) and Visualisation theme leader and Steering Committee member of the Curtin Institute of Computation. He was also acting Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, Faculty of Humanities.
Prior to Curtin, Prof Champion was Project leader of DIGHUMLAB, a 30 million DKK funded, 4-university Danish consortium in Digital Humanities, where he worked with EU research infrastructures and projects and was the Research and Public Engagement co-leader for DARIAH, and a Danish representative in NeDiMAH and CLARIN. He has been a chief investigator on four recent or current Australian Research Council and one Australian Research Data Commons grant, a partner on Erasmus, COST and NEH grants, and held an ARC PhD industry scholarship (University of Melbourne, Lonely Planet Publications). He has co-chaired EuroMed, Interactive Entertainment, and CHINZ and was a CAADRIA proceedings co-chair. He was EU infrastructures session chair at Digital Heritage 2013, and local co-chair of the World Wide Web 2017 conference. Prof Champion is an Expert Reviewer for the European Science Foundation, and Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology. He is on the editorial boards of Games and Culture, Journal of Games and Virtual Worlds, Digital Creativity, Journal of Virtual Reality and Broadcasting. He reviews book proposals for Oxford University Press, Routledge, De Gruyter, Bloomsbury, MIT Press, and Springer.
