Dr Abigail Dennis

Abi holds a PhD in English Literature and brings over a decade of scholarly communications, research, and competitive grant funding expertise, as well as a track record of brokering cross-sector and industry-research partnerships. She has worked in the Office of Advancement at the University of Toronto, in arts administration, research management, and as a freelance film, literature, and broadcast writer and researcher (in both Canada and Australia). She specialises in translating complex scholarly research in accessible and engaging ways for a range of audiences, including industry, government stakeholders, and the general public. She is currently Program Lead – Manufacturing Innovation at the Brisbane-based ARM Hub (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Hub), where she is coordinating delivery of two major new initiatives, helping SMEs safely and ethically adopt AI, and bridge the gap between innovation and commercialisation.
Previously, she worked in the central Research Office at the University of Queensland, overseeing a team of four grants officers working with UQ’s world-class researchers to strengthen industry partnerships and submit outstanding grant applications into multiple international and industry-facing schemes (including ARC Linkage, AEA, US Department of Defense, and Advance Queensland schemes). Prior to this, she was Senior Grants and Research Manager at Queensland Music Festival (QMF), where she managed grant applications and acquittals, and the organisation’s philanthropic and university partnerships. Abi was also instrumental in the ARM Hub’s establishment and launch phase in 2019-20, working with founder and CEO Cori Stewart as the Hub’s first Senior Research and Communications Officer.
