Prof Jane Long
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Jane Long is an independent board director and chair, higher education consultant and adviser who specialises in:
institutional strategy, structures and governance;
leadership mentoring, and the creation and maintenance of effective teams in diverse higher education settings;
academic change management; quality and risk assessment; and
equity and conduct.
She prioritises approaches that are both data and values-driven, to create outcomes which are realistic and well-suited to their specific higher education context.
She has held roles as:
Provost, University of Tasmania;
Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, La Trobe University;
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), La Trobe University;
Senior and executive positions at the University of Western Australia;
Chair, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) group, Universities Australia
Nationally awarded professor of History; and is currently:
Fellow of The Royal Historical Society (UK);
Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD)
Professor Emerita University of Tasmania
Over two decades she led significant institutional and faculty portfolios including International; Research and Research Services; Teaching and Learning; Student Life; Academic Culture; and Academic Workforce Planning.
She has led external organisational reviews for a number of Australian universities, and also worked closely with private providers as reviewer, auditor and board chair.
She brings wide-ranging business acumen to her work as a consultant. She also has experience in a range of local and state government settings, regulatory contexts, private industry, and cultural institutions beyond the academy that complement her knowledge of higher education.
