Dr Emma Sciberras

Dr Emma Sciberras

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Dr Emma Sciberras is a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of research experience. Her research is largely in neurodevelopmental disorders and mental health. Dr Sciberras was awarded a Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Child Specialisation) through the University of Melbourne in 2010. She currently works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the Child and Youth Mental Health Service at Alfred Health in Melbourne. She is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. She previously held an academic appointment in the School of Psychology at Deakin University (2015-23), most recently in the role of Associate Professor (2019-23) and held leadership positions including the role of Higher Degree Coordinator in the School of Psychology from 2019-20. Dr Sciberras has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has supervised ~15 PhD/DPsych students and ~30 honours students through to completion.

Dr Sciberras has published over 170 peer-reviewed papers, including two co-edited books. She has a h-index of 47 and her research has been cited over ~7800 times. She is an elected member of the executive board of the Australian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) and was part of the Guideline Development Group for the Australian Evidence-Based Clinical Guideline for ADHD (2022). She has been awarded multiple prizes for her research including the Deakin University Mid-Career Researcher Award (2022), the Victorian Tall Poppy Science Award (2016) and the Australian Psychological Society, Early Career Award (2015). Dr Sciberras has attracted $9.4M in competitive grant funding including CIA grant funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Medical Research Future Fund, veski and the Waterloo Foundation. She held continuous independent fellowship funding since 2012 (MRFF Investigator Grant, EL2, 2021-25; NHMRC Career Development Fellowship, Level 1, 2016-21; NHMRC Early Career Fellowship, 2012-15). In addition to the grants she has led, she has been a co-investigator on numerous successful NHMRC and ARC grants.

CI Sciberras has reviewed grants for the NHMRC (Project Grant panel member, 2014-16, 2018) and multiple international organisations including the National Initiative Brain & Cognition, Netherlands, Thrasher, Dutch Research Council, Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Waterloo Foundation. CI Sciberras serves as a thesis examiner for Australian and International universities.
